Jon and I have a relatively spacious 2 bedroom apartment... spacious in all the rooms except our little second bedroom. When we moved in, this didn't seem like a big deal. We had intended to use it mainly as an office space and it looked like enough space for two desks (and it is).
This spring though, I decided to forgo having a desk at home and instead have a place to sew. So my sewing space is shared with Jon's desk and our bikes in the summer. We like biking to/from work, so the bikes need to be accessible.
It's a bit cramped and the room's a bit dark, but I like having a permanent place to have my sewing space set up. Our landlord is fine with us painting the walls, so I think at some point when there's a little less going on, I want to paint the walls a lighter color. I love my sewing table (a recent acquisition) that allows me to raise and lower my machine and my old desk is a great cutting surface.
I also really like having a collage of my former students from when I worked doing AmeriCorps at Admission Possible in Minnesota. It was an experience that continues to inspire me just about everyday and President Obama even gave the organization a shout-out the other day. :)
I keep all my fabric in a bookshelf that I am quickly outgrowing behind the door.
Thanks for coming and I hope you enjoyed your tour! :)
That's a cool sewing table. Looks very convenient to use! And I think no matter what size fabric storage we have, we will outgrow it!
ReplyDeletei need a smaller sewing table like you have...it must be nice to have a real room that works for sewing
ReplyDeleteHey Kris - have found you via Red Pepper Quilts (your comment really resonated with me!). I am so excited to find your blog on this post - I LOVE seeing people's sewing spaces and I must, must tidy mine up enough to be able to take some shots myself! I love your shelf for fabric. I started putting my stash into a basket under my sewing table but it has quickly outgrown it. Also I want to be able to admire my collection since to me, it is like art. Actually it IS art! Just need to find a shelf ....
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are making great use of a small space! Seeing it is really motivating me to try and get my space organized. Thanks for sharing! :)
