What about this? Better? I kind of like the blocks dancing around the outside with a few wonky trees on the inside. Everything will be better spaced. I just didn't have quite enough room on my "design wall." What do you think?
I love that layout! It fits the style of the blocks perfectly! The only thing that strikes me a little bit off is the upper right hand block with so much red toward the outside. I might flip it 180 degrees or switch it with the block next to it, but it is a minor point in what is going to be a fabulous quilt!
I like this one better! I agree with Anne that the top right is a bit overwhelming, maybe just turn it so the red is towards the middle more? I think it looks great as is though, too. I LOVE the fabric selection...did you mention anywhere what the fabrics are?
I don't know if I mentioned what the fabrics were, but most of it is Michael Miller's Funky Christmas and Christmas Snow Flower by Free Spirit Fabrics. The blues are Michael Miller Ta Dot in Aqua and a Crazy Eight Ice Blue Dot. The solids are Kona Cottons in white, cardinal and clover.
i love this...it is so fun and playful. looks great. but my brain hurts a little trying to think about getting the extra parts square so everything finishes right. you i am sure have a easy pan for this!!
This is definitely better. I love, love, love the addition of the wonky little tress. The symmetry of this version also appeals to me more than the last itreration. But the top right is kind of heavy looking with that big, bold red block. Maybe just moving it to the bottom would work better, since it's so weighty?
I agree that the top seems a bit heavier. And I might move the block that has the little card trick block in it towards the center. It is less wonky... And maybe make the center blocks the ones that have most of the white in them?
Hi Kris! That wonky quilt is gorgeous - I love it! Thanks so much for leaving a comment on my most recent post, isn't Katy just the sweetest? You mentioned that you were also a grad student, what are doing?
Kris....I LOVE your blog and LOVE your Christmas quilt! Thanks for connecting with me on this!I love the blocks tilted....it looks so whimsical and merry!!!! How do you find time to do all of this (make quilts, keep a blog, etc!!) while in graduate school! You absolutely amaze me! Keep up the great work! Patty from Edina Mother-Daughter Book Club

ReplyDeleteI really like the little trees and it seems well balanced all together.
ReplyDeleteYES! There is a lot happening in each block so giving them some space really opens things up and things begin to pop instead of meld. 8)
ReplyDeleteI like this layout so much more than the first. The trees are a great addition!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Those trees are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteOOOh - I like that one! And the JOY in the center. It looks perfect! Very happy quilt

ReplyDeleteI definitely prefer this layout - I like the way all the blocks are at an angle. Can't wait to see the candy cane stripe binding fabric too!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a fun arrangement! It totally works...
