After much indecision, I decided to do Amish diamonds around the outside contrasting the blue and pink/purple fabrics and echo the square design from the original block in the corners. In order to make the math easy, I just made a paper piecing pattern and did the diamonds that way rather than figuring out how big the pieces needed to be for a 5 1/3" block. :)
So this sketch...
Turned into this (note how big it is, that's a 5 foot wide rug)...
With my trash can evidence of paper piecing...
I hope she likes it!
gorgeous!!! I love how you brought the center pattern back into the design.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did so much! You did really bring the focus to the center and I'll bet Adrienne will love that it got quite a bit bigger!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I have this fabric...or almost had this fabric. It's pretty bad when you can't remember what you've bought or not.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
Wait a minute! I see some usable scraps in that trash can.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome addition to that block. And great idea making the paper pieced strips!
ReplyDeleteWow! Such a great border! And you were so smart to paper piece it rather than do the math. I especially like the way you used the solid purple, tying it back to the center block. So cool.
